For the first time since 2019, the Penticton Art Gallery is opening its doors for a live, in-person event.
The gallery’s 45th annual auction will take place on June 25, with a flight-worn spacesuit and an array of local paintings among the items on display at this year’s gathering.
It’s not just an ordinary auction, however. The gallery is marking the occasion with a special draw that will see a flight voucher for two to any WestJet location given to a randomly selected donor.
“We wanted to incorporate a little more fun this year,” said Chelsea Terry, the gallery’s communications coordinator. “We know how exciting an auction can be, so why not add the excitement of a raffle as well?”
A silent auction, starting on June 20, will precede the main festivities on June 25, which will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Other items available for auction include a Tiffany stained glass lamp and a pair of Andy Warhol prints by Sunday B. Morning.
“I can already imagine them at the entrance to a wine store,” Terry said of the Warhol prints.
Pre-auction on all the available objects of the gallery is open, from Wednesday, June 15th.
For this year’s auction, the gallery hopes to raise a total of $25,000, with proceeds going to support exhibitions, public outreach activities and arts education programs.
Tickets to attend the live auction on June 25 are priced at $25 for gallery members and $30 for non-members.
Drinks, courtesy of Cannery Brewing, and live music, courtesy of jazz band Vuya Kaya, will be featured at the in-person event, with the live auction scheduled for 5 p.m.
People can buy their tickets at the Penticton Gallery – located at 199 Marina Way – or by calling 250-493-2928.
