A non-profit organization that helps women change their lives is hosting an online auction

Hand Up for Women helps women achieve specific goals, aimed at them becoming independent and living a life free from addiction, domestic violence or other problems

Knoxville, Tenn. – A non-profit organization that advocates for women and supports them in their efforts to become empowered is hosting an online auction to raise funds.

Hand Up For Women connects with women facing situations involving substance abuse, domestic violence, poverty and many other types of issues. They provide support systems and mentoring connections, helping women learn the steps to take so they can recover and start living independently.

They offer courses to teach women career readiness. They also teach them computer skills, self-care, and interpersonal skills. According to a statement, the organization also helps them in their spiritual development. Hand Up For Women has been helping women since 2003.

All money raised from the online auction will go to supporting women, according to the statement. There are hundreds of items to bid on, including a basketball autographed by Pat Summit and a soccer ball autographed by Josh Heupel.

There are also gift cards for local shops and restaurants, as well as many handmade gifts from local artisans. People will also be able to bid on tickets to local attractions.

“We are saddened by the desperation experienced by women in Knox and surrounding counties,” Eva Pearce, executive director of the nonprofit, said in a statement. “We are passionate about serving more women and giving them the support they need to live more abundant lives. Our graduates tell us that our series of life management, career preparation and spiritual development courses have helped them become stronger and more empowered in all aspects of life.

They hope to raise $20,000. It runs until October 30 and since Monday they have raised around $9,000. There are a total of 378 items up for auction, including packages to help podcasters launch their new shows and a four-hour consultation with an interior designer. Anyone can browse items or make offers online.
