Bangladesh Art Week live auction starts on Friday

Bangladesh Art Week has announced its third live auction titled “Ora Egarojon”.

The auction will be held both virtually and physically at the Dhaka Gallery in Gulshan.

The initiative will feature renowned and young local and foreign artists, reads a press release issued in this regard.

The in-person event is “by invitation” only, however, registered bidders can participate in the online auction, which will be streamed live on Facebook.

Prominent senior banker Anis A Khan will lead the auction.

The event includes sculptures, photography, mixed media constructions, site-specific installations, works on paper, sculptural furniture and animation presentations.

Organized by the founder of Bangladesh Art Week, Niharika Momtaz, 11 members of this group have exhibited at prestigious events, including the Venice Biennale, the Dhaka Art Summit, the Goethe Institute and the Francis Dhaka Alliance.

These guest artists represent the budding, vibrant, socially conscious and daring community of artists who live and work across Bangladesh, the statement added.

In addition to the artists’ considerable facility with the materials, their strength emerges from the various forms of representation that their work encompasses; while reflecting their own distinct perceptions of a unique geographic environment.

Bangladesh Art Week offers an unparalleled opportunity to view and purchase original works of art and its friendly virtual atmosphere provides the perfect setting to engage with the curator and exhibitors, who offer specialist knowledge to new and experienced collectors.

The auction brings together a combination of artists, which is very rare in any other art event in Bangladesh and this event is revolutionary in the art industry.

Participants in this year’s auction are — Shireen Jawad, singer and musician, Lala Rukh Selim, sculptor, Habiba Nowrosh, photographer, Dinar Sultana Putul – soft sculpture, Shuborna – printmaker, Fareha Zeba, printmaker, Sara Hossain, facilitator, Nasima Haque Mitu, sculptor, Asma Akber, visual artist, Nabila Nawrin, architect and furniture designer, Promiti Hossain, visual artist.
