This year’s promotion from the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Fine Art (UCT) will host the annual silent auction fundraising event, September 14-16.
This auction, a long-standing tradition of the school, helps with the costs of the major year-end exhibit, including a professionally produced catalog, and funds the Materials Scholarship Fund, which provides students with disadvantaged financial aid for art supplies. .
This fundraising effort allows the graduating class to give back to the school and place their work in a larger context of professional artistic practice. These two fundraising efforts are important elements in the development of young, socially connected and resourceful artists.
The silent auction is particularly important this year, as it is essentially the only source of funding available due to restrictions related to the pandemic.
The auction will take place on the Bidpro auction platform, where potential buyers place anonymous “silent” bids on an auction sheet, using an auction number. The work is then sold to the highest bidder.
This year, the tendering process will take place over three days, September 14, 15 and 16. Auctions will be open throughout the three-day window, until the event closes at midnight on September 16.
