Malek Theater Silent Auction Fundraiser October 23 | Local

INDEPENDENCE – The Malek Theater Foundation, a 501 © (3) nonprofit, is planning a silent auction fundraiser on the afternoon of Saturday, October 23 and is soliciting donations for the event.

Donations for gift baskets may include merchandise, services, gift certificates, etc. Proceeds from the event will help pay for the restoration of the theater. All profits and monetary donations will be deposited into the Malek Theater Foundation bank account at BankIowa.

All donations will be greatly appreciated and contributions will be recognized in promotional materials, on display items, on social media and in local newspapers.

If you have any questions, call 818-665-5779 or email [email protected] (preferably before October 1). Or, donations can be mailed to Committee Chair, Carrie Brown, 405 3rd Avenue NE, Independence, IA 50644. If you would prefer to order a gift basket online, please ship it to this address.

The Malek Theater Foundation was incorporated in February 2020 with a mission to restore the original historic art deco design and integrity of the building. Once restored, the vision is to operate it as a new venue for entertainment – a live performance theater showcasing musical talent, tribute groups, live plays, choral groups, and more.

The Malek Theater opened on October 29, 1946 and has provided 50 years of first-class cinematic entertainment and community events. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the theater. It is still a monument to the happy memories of the community, although it has been closed for many years. The foundation hopes to create new memories there for generations to come.
