Designed especially for the Aspen Art Museum, “My Dear Mountains” by Gaetano Pesceinstallation depicting the sunset over a mountain landscape was unveiled this week — spanning the entire facade of the museum.
It is the artist’s first façade intervention and is accompanied by an exhibition of furniture and sculptures by Pesce in the ground floor gallery of the museum, further emphasizing the multifaceted nature of his practice since 50 years. The installation and exhibition will remain on view until fall 2022.
This unveiling kicked off the second annual Aspen Museum ArtWeekwhich wraps up today, culminating in the museum’s long-running ArtCrush Gala honoring artist Gary Simmons.
ArtWeek featured special projects, conversations and performances by artists Jeffrey Gibson, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Alex Gvojic, Precious Okoyomon, Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and the art ensemble Standing on the Corner, as well as a series of visits to private collections.
ArtWeek also includes August’s biggest auction – the iconic ArtCrush 2022 auction. for the benefit of the museum, with live and online components hosted by Sotheby’s again this year.
Over 60 works were donated by leading international artists, including Amoako Boafo, Katherine Bernhardt, DRIFT, Jeffrey Gibson, Joel Mesler, Paola Pivi, Gary Simmons, Ryan Sullivan and Mungo Thomson.
Two rare experiences are also offered: a studio visit and dinner with artist Cecily Brown in New York and a three-day journey behind the scenes of art in Pompeii, Naples and the Amalfi Coast, led by historians art. , curators, collectors and artists such as SAGG Napoli.
The online auction includes 63 additional lots. Overall, they range from under $5,000 to over $200,000 and include painting, sculpture, ceramics, fabric work, paper work, and design art. All were donated to support the arts and educational programs of the museum.

“My Dear Mountains” is curated by museum curator Stella Bottai and is supported by the Italian Council, a program of the Directorate General of Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture aimed at promoting contemporary Italian art around the world.
